Reflecting on friends gone and their legacy...

1969-2010

Darren or - as most of us knew him, 'Daz' - Bryce was special.   A very few of us knew this before he left us, the rest realised soon afterwards.  He was special, because although I had never met him in person, I considered him one of my best friends.  He'd earned that.   He stayed with me through all the sites I ran, and was one of the very first here too.  He'd be the first to admit that he wasn't an outstanding modeller by any means....but he made up for it in enthusiasm!

We've lost other friends along the way, some we know about, some we don't.  It was the way we lost Daz that was so tragic.

I miss him.  Others do too.  Jurgy does.  Daz had been dealt a lousy hand and in the end it got the better of him.  Unfortunately life's like that, and sometimes it just becomes too much.   I always felt when reading posts about others who have passed on other sites, that I would try to respect other people's losses, but never let it become overbearing and too large a part of what we are all about here on ModelArmour?

With Daz it was a little different though.  Not only was he the first of those we'd all known on ModelArmor to actually pass away, but he was one of life's good guys.  There is no bigger accolade.  I hope people think as much of me when I've gone. There are things I used to talk about with Daz, that I haven't been able to discuss with anybody else since.  Even today I badly needed to talk to somebody...and Daz was the only person who would have understood, Rest in peace mate.

When Daz passed away, back in November 2010, aged only 42,  enough of us felt so highly of him, that we wanted to remember him in some way.  So we thought up the 'Daz Bryce Memorial Award'.  At the time, the idea was to pass to me those little odds and sods, kits that were spare, etc., and in about a year we'd award it to somebody as the 'Memorial Award' in his memory.  Then we'd start again.  That way he'd always be 'here'...at least in spirit.

Well it's high time we actually did award it.  I want my spare bedroom back.  Laughing Here's a link to the actual announcement of the award:

I've had several ideas about how to award it, and each time I have an idea and then talk it over with somebody, they've seen problems that I haven't.  Which is where it stands at the moment.

So...over to you guys, the lifeblood of the site - the membership.  It doesn't matter if you've been here from the start, or if you are a new member.  Each has a voice, and I'm throwing it open for discussion in the thread attached to this article.   Let's reach a concensus on how we...the ModelArmour Community...are going to award this vast pile of modelling paraphernalia!
